I found my dog lying in the bathtub this afternoon.

Let me backtrack a bit. I was on call yesterday so, justifiably I think, I slept late this morning. I had let the dog out around 7:00 after dealing with a few loose ends by phone (med changes, diet orders, etc) and laid back down. I fully intended to let her back in after a few minutes. But when I woke up again sometime after 11:00 my neighbor was knocking on the door to let me know that my dog had gotten loose and was wandering the neighborhood as she is wont to do (worryingly so as she is seriously lacking in street smarts) whenever she escapes the yard. I was a bit disheveled, having just awoken and I'm sure my neighbor whom I'd not met previously (though I have seen him walking his 2 giant Weimaraners) must think I'm a real weirdo (which I probably am, but that's not the point).

When she came in (she was sitting primly on the doormat when I opened the door) and I got the sleep out of my eyes, I noted that she was acting a bit off. She crawled under the coffee table for a bit (not all that unusual in and of itself), then settled under the side table for a few minutes (I've never seen her get under there before), then she sat in front of the window for a while staring intently at the closed blinds. She crawled into my lap for a brief cuddle, then back to the window to hunt a phantom fly. It was as if she just couldn't light anywhere. I went about my business and got distracted by something or other. Eventually I realized that I hadn't seen the dog in a while so I went looking for her. As I passed the bathroom I glimpsed this big black shape through the shower curtain and had to do a double take. Now, she's always been cooperative about baths, but I have never had her voluntarily climb into the tub without persistent prompting. Not one to ignore signs, I of course took the opportunity to give her a bath. For a few hours afterward she stuck pretty close to me, but she's acting more typical now (curled up on her end of the couch and sparing me a backward glance every now and again between dog naps).

I'm not sure what to make of her behavior. Then again she's always been something of a quirky canine. And I really can't say much about strange behavior as I sit here with my cup of Earl Grey and a pomegranate popsicle...

OMG! Too funny! I'm glad my dog is not that simple. ;-) She seems to have recovered from her adventure quite nicely.

But is the gratuitous use of parentheses atypical behavior?

For me? Not so much. I frequently abuse punctuation.
