100 random things that make me happy: #3

I had something else entirely in mind when this came to me.

Weekends make me happy. Even when I have to work them, there's this sense of being insulated from the rest of the week, the rest of the world. And even though when this is written it's technically very early on Monday morning, I'm still awake because I want to make the weekend last just a little longer, put off another week just a little further, make the passage of time just a little slower....

It's even better when I don't have to work, when I have no plans, and I can just vegetate - put rootlets down into the couch cushions and sprout a few eyes before Monday. I like a wasted couple of days just watching awful B-movies that make me laugh when they're totally for serious and drinking cup after cup of tea or coffee while I surf teh interweb for moar amusement. I like having time to leisurely accomplish a few chores - and I feel like I've accomplished something when I unload and reload the dishwasher and pay a couple of bills between naps. Oh, naps...

But I digress. I even like weekends when I have plans with friends to go hiking or see a movie or polish off a bottle of wine - or all of the above. But most of all, I like a chance to breathe and be in my own space where the only people who invade are those I let in - whether it be old pals or mutant space lizards or just Dvorak and Darjeeling. I spent the vast majority of this weekend at the hospital, but even so part of me is loathe to see the rest of the week come. There's just something about the weekend that makes me happy.

OMG! That would be so much fun! Do you eat popcorn, bb?

I didn't really realize how I felt about the weekend 'til it hit me...it's kinda weird. I can only imagine how topsy-turvey your schedule must get. And always on the move, too.

When I was at work I *lived* for weekends...Friday nights were sacrosanct...with two whole days off ahead of me! And on Sunday nights I would linger up until the early hours of Monday morning to avoid going to sleep and then it being Monday morning...

But since I retired every night is Friday night!!! And I seem to have lost all sense of urgency...I'm late for just about everything after years of being punctual!

Actually, I've just thought back to when I first started work and I worked seven day shifts and I used to work three out of four weekends...but it didn't bother me then...it was just as I got older that they seemed to become so precious!!

I suppose one must pay one's dues in order to enjoy everyday as Friday...I'll just have to keep savoring my weekends for now! I've worked the last 2, so I'm looking forward to the next 2 off!
