100 random things that make me happy: #5

Music makes me happy!  Perhaps that's a bit broad (and certainly deserving of more than one post)...

So, what had happened was, I spent the entire morning and most of the afternoon at the hospital today. It was a productive day - 13 patients to see about, a baby to deliver, a couple of folks in the ER to admit, and a ton of phone calls to field.  I finally got things squared away, picked something up to eat, and headed home. I was here all of an hour when I got called back to admit somebody else. Now, I know that's par for the course when one is on call, but it still aggravates the ever loving hell out of me sometimes. So I got in the car, plugged in my iPod and headed to the hospital, grumbling under my breath all the while. But then this awesome guitar riff starts streaming from my speakers and I instantly start smiling and singing along. Rock and roll makes me happy. Cream makes me happy. More specifically, "Sunshine of Your Love" makes me happy. I didn't even realize how much my mood had turned around until I realized I was humming the whole way from the car to the nurses station. So random.

Ah...music! The great love of my life and it so happens I had a new MP3 player and am right in the middle of re-doing it...

I have to laugh at my tastes, the CD's are piled up here on my desk...one of my most fave pieces is Liszt's Sonata in Bb...a BIG piece of classical piano music! But then I also have The Monkees greatest hits...Bananarama...and Verdi's Un Ballo in Maschera. (I LURVE opera and Jose Carreras!) I have a particular love of Paul Simon's, There goes Rhyming Simon. Rachmaninov and Prokofiev Piano Concertos...The Puppini Sisters. Beethoven and Sibelius Violin Concertos. Steve Martin and The Steep Canyon Rangers and the House MD music from the TV series and Hugh Laurie's Let them Talk. I love it all...even Cream...and Meat Loaf...I have Bat out of Hell...somwhere! But now I'm typing here trying to remember the drummer with Cream...he was really famous...Ginger Baker??? Dunno!

Eclectic taste in music is best. Imma have to devote some more posts to my various and sundry musical loves... Cream is pretty awesome. Ginger Baker, Eric Clapton, and Jack Bruce. That guitar riff just always pulls me in.

I have a Cream jam on my iPod that's over an hour long. One really must be in the mood for that. Sometimes when I'm driving down the road with my iPod on shuffle, ten minutes or so of that will have me pulling over to hit the 'next song' button.

They're pretty insane. I mean, Clapton! But in reasonable doses ;-).
