Now is the winter of our discontent...

Y'all. It's cold. I know, I know. The whole damn country is cold, and parts of it much colder than here. But seriously, y'all. It's cold. And this old house is awfully drafty when the wind chill is below zero.  I live in the South, for Pete's sake! I'm just grateful the power is on.  And that I managed to thaw my frozen pipes out before they burst. Turns out the door to the crawl space had come open. No wonder the floor's been so chilly in the morning!  So I closed it up, propped a cinder block in front of it, and turned the faucets wide open. It took about an hour, but they started flowing again.  Hopefully, crisis averted. If my dog's behavior is any indicator, something may have sought shelter under my house....she's awfully intent on the floor in my bedroom and sniffing at the baseboards. I just hope whatever it may be survives and gets back out once this cold snap is over. Otherwise we may be revisiting this in the summer...
Everybody keep their extremities covered! I'm gonna retreat to my blanket fort now and think warm thoughts...

The extremes of your weather are amazing...photos of the icing look so beautiful and yet are deadly! All we have here is RAIN and then some...but some of our coastal towns are being battered beyond recognition with the remnants of a storm coming over from the US! I wonder if your Polar Vortex will be making it's way to us...hope not...but I find it easier to keep warm than to keep dry!!

Keep warm and take care!

You Brits and your cosy Gulf Stream.... This weather is so odd, though. Thankfully in the South if you wait around long enough (usually only about 15 minutes or so) the weather will change. It's supposed to be back into the 50s this weekend. Just trying to keep my toes 'til then... ;-)

Now they've said we've got some Siberian cold sweeping over for next week! Atm, we have torrential rain...battering my window as I type!!

Apropos your 'winter of discontent'...Rickard III is due to be re-buried in Leicester Cathedral v.soon! Did you know his (verified) remains were found underneath a car park in the city and that there's been a battle royal between Leicester and York over his remains! What a palaver...

I can't even imagine finding a king out in the parking lot. How bizarre! And how bizarre that Leicester is spelled that way... I was shocked by the pronunciation when I was there! I'm glad they get to keep him. Is it a bit like "finders keepers?"

You've been to Leicester???? Wow...not one of my favourite places! (We have a LOT of strange pronunciations...) I think they knew the car park was the site of an old church or burial ground and some researchers decided that he could be buried there...and he was! He was Richard of York of course and killed defending the House of York in the last (ish) battle of War of the Roses, so I suppose York thought they had some rights...

Oh and I think it was an American who was able to verify (by DNA) the remains as a direct descendant of Richard!! Funny old world!

It is cold! And things are well and truly frosty. No water blows, but at least you were able to get your pipes thawed.

Bless your hot water and heating pipes.

From your mouth to God's ear! ;-) *fingers crossed* Hopefully it'll warm up over the next day or two, and no pipes will burst.

Sooo cold. I hope you are recovering well!

Thanks so much, dear. I'm feeling better, much less soreness...but more itching of the incision sites as they heal! ;-P

I hope that you and your house achieve warmth and comfort as soon as possible! If you usually have a rule about the dog not sleeping in the bed, now is a great time to relax that rule. Wish I could send you our spare space heater.

Thank you, dear! Thankfully it's warmed up nicely, in the 50s and sunny today. I went out with just a cardigan! But I may need to invest in a space heater for future cold spells. I've collected all kinds of fans over the years -box fans, desk fans, stand fans - but never bought a heater. And doggy heat only goes so far - and she doesn't like sharing the bed, the crazy thing! Hope y'all are doing well!
